Rye Development specializes in using previously untapped resources to generate a clean, reliable, 100% renewable energy source through hydropower. Hydropowered energy generation has a low carbon emission rate and does not consume water, making it an environmentally low-impact source of large-scale grid electricity, unlike non-renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels. Hydropower is also an extremely reliable source of renewable energy that allows for fast, flexible, and controllable electricity generation depending on grid demand; unlike other forms of renewable energy, such as wind and solar, hydropower does not rely on uncontrollable external factors for use.
There are currently over 80,000 non-powered dams (NPDs) in the United States. Rye Development seeks to modernize these untapped resources into a source of clean, renewable energy generation. Updated NPDs can meet fluctuating large-scale electrical grid demands, reliably increasing or decreasing energy generation as needed. Electricity generated by hydropower is environmentally low-impact, does not consume water, and costs less to produce than traditional sources; these benefits are then passed on to the consumer.
Adding new energy generating capabilities to existing NPDs is also economically meaningful; it boosts local infrastructure, creates jobs, and provides a steady source of electricity to homes and businesses. New hydropower on existing dams is a high value, cost efficient way to generate electricity; it maximizes renewable energy resources and balances environmental and commercial interests.View Projects
